Gilbert, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- A Gilbert woman now has 46 fewer companions to keep her company in her home.

On Friday complaints were made to the Gilbert Police Department regarding a number of cats.

Complaints were made about an unpleasant odor coming from the home.

Officers got a search warrant for the house on Michigan Avenue West and on Saturday removed 46 cats from the house.

Initially 43 cats were located inside of the house.

Gilbert Police Chief, Ty Techar, says there are still believed to be a few more cats potentially in the residence but they were hiding during the search.

All of the animals were healthy, but several are pregnant and some have already given birth to kittens since the removal.

"We contract with Contented Critters for animal control services and then they came and did the removals for us and my understanding is they are currently trying to find homes for a majority of the cats," says Techar.

At Contented Critters in Makinen the cats will be spayed, neutered, and hopefully adopted.

28 of the felines were newborn kittens, while the rest varied in age.

Gilbert Police are currently working with the department of human services and the St. Louis County health department to make sure that the home is habitable.
