Iron Range Man Hit by Train to Face Trespassing Charges

Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Authorities have confirmed that an Iron, Minnesota man who was struck by a train Monday night is facing trespassing charges for riding on private railroad property.

18-year-old Joseph Petterson was driving his dirt bike one mile south of Gilbert on CN Railway property when the accident happened.

Officials say a train going 45 miles per hour hit Petterson, knocking him off the bike.

Authorities were able to find him in a remote area thanks to the ping off of a cell phone.

Petterson was taken to Essentia Health St Mary's in Duluth with leg and arm injuries.

He's currently listed in fair condition.
