Skip Swimming on some Lake Superior Beaches, for now

(Northland's NewsCenter) -- The Minnesota Department of Health has placed advisories for the following beaches:

Split Rock River Beach (north of Two Harbors at the mouth of Split River), Twin Points Public Access Beach (north of Gooseberry Falls State Park), Stewart River Beach (north of Two Harbors at the mouth of Stewart River), Burlington Bay Beach (located in Two Harbors), Agate Bay Beach(located in Two Harbors), Knife River Marina Beach (south of Two Harbors at the mouth of Knife River), Bluebird Landing Beach (north of Duluth on Old North Shore Road), French River Beach (north of Duluth on Old North Shore Road, at the mouth of the French River), Lester River Beach (at the mouth of Lester River in Duluth), Clyde Avenue Boat Landing Beach(Smithville neighborhood on Clyde Avenue), Boy Scout Landing Beach (on Commonwealth Avenue in New Duluth, past the Evergreen Memorial Highway), Minnesota Point Harbor Side/15th Street Beach (Formerly New Duluth Boat Club Beach), 20th Street/Hearding Island Canal Beach (harbor side of Park Point, at 20th Street).

Water contact is not recommended for the beaches due to elevated E. coli bacteria levels found in samples taken on June 18.

The samples are a possible indication of fecal contamination.

Re-sampling will take place on June 19.
