Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - The S.S. John G. Munson was actually forced to anchor for 48 hours outside the harbor as the streak of sub–zero temperatures formed a hefty batch of fresh ice within the shipping canal.

Crews aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Alder had to clear a channel before the 768 foot laker could make it into port.

The Munson is currently taking on winter heating fuel before it makes its way to Fraser Shipyards for dry dock.

We'll give you an exclusive look at winter life in layup for the Munson once it's settled into its berth.
