Minneapolis Electric's steel making foundry in Gary– New Duluth has brought numerous jobs to the region, especially over the last two years.
However, some nearby citizens are more concerned with all the noise the plant is bringing.
Over the past two years the company has received 22 – million dollars in investments and has expanded greatly.
But people that live near the foundry say the noise is almost unbearable.
"Almost like metal clanging noises, it's not the same every time, different noises almost sound like gunshots," says Oliver Pierson a nearby resident.
"It was like a blast, it's like a small bomb," adds Larry Bwietman.
And with summer coming up, the noise may get even worse.
"Of course in the summer time is when it would be the worse because I would have my windows open," says Bwietman.
Bwietman is just one of the people that have complained about the noise.
Lisa Olsen often hears the neighbors complain about the foundry and is grateful to have not had the same experience.
"I hear the neighbors complaining about early plowing and bells at night but on our end I haven't had no problem."
Bwietman admits the noise has lessened but awaits the summer to see if it continues.
"That's when I'll know if it's gotten any better for sure."
Another nearby resident questioned about the noise stated, it bothers him but he feels there's nothing he can do about.
Minneapolis Electrical Co. – Duluth gave no response when contacted about the matter.
