Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - Republican and millionaire hedge fund manager Eric Hovde announced his decision on Thursday, joining an already crowded field of Republicans hoping to replace outgoing Senator Herb Kohl.
Hovde is chief executive officer of the investment advising firm Hovde Capital Advisors, and real estate management and development firm Hovde Properties.
With over two decades of business experience in the private sector, Hovde believes it should be the focal point for job creation: "That's the best way to revitalize this area—is by getting the private sector freed up where people feel comfortable and confident to make investments in this community, to start hiring people."
Hovde joins GOP Senate candidates Governor Tommy Thompson, former U.S. Representative Mark Neumann and state Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald in the race for the senate seat.
