Cotton, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Declining student enrollment has sealed the fate of many small town schools in the Northland.

The closure of the Cotton School in 2011 was expected to have a devastating impact on the community.

But that didn't happen, thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers determined to make a difference.

The old Cotton school is the home of a faith based non-profit community outreach center, called Old School Lives.

Programs range from a public library to a gift shop to a youth center.
