Carlton County, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- A man wanted for questioning as a possible witness to an attempted murder in Cloquet in January has been extradited to Minnesota to face charges.
John Bemis III was reported missing two days after his ex-wife, Marie Majerle, was charged with attempted homicide for shooting her estranged husband.
Bemis was allegedly spotted in California in April, where he had been living at state park.
He was picked up recently in Nevada on a warrant for child endangerment and was extradited to Minnesota where he is currently being held in the Carlton County Jail.
According to the criminal complaint, Bemis was questioned by authorities after the Majerle shooting and agreed to another interview on January 7.
However, investigators learned that Bemis' 14-year-old daughter came home from school on January 7 and Bemis had disappeared and was not heard from.
Bemis was charged with child neglect and a warrant had been issued.
Police say Bemis is not a suspect in the attempted murder case and the child neglect charge is unrelated to the attempted murder.
Bemis is expected to appear in court later this week.
