White Township, MN (NNCNOW.com) - A northeastern Minnesota man is in critical condition Saturday evening after being found unconscious in a swamp by a neighbor.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's office responded to the area of Camp 90 Forest Road and the Ash River Road just after 10 Friday morning to check on a 72–year–old Orr man who had not been heard from for two days.

He was eventually located unconscious by a neighbor deep in a swampy area, a short distance from the ATV he was driving.

It's believed by authorities that the victim may have been injured when the ATV he was riding struck a stump on the trail.

He was extracted from the scene, and flown to Saint Mary's Essentia hospital by Life Link Air Medical.

Rescue crews say their efforts were hampered by the area's remoteness, and the swampy conditions.

The victim's name is being withheld pending family notification at this time.
