Cass Lake, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - An apparent infatuation in Cass County turns dangerous after one man is seriously hurt and another charged with attempted murder.
The Cass County Attorney says 24 year-old John Lutgen allegedly tried to kill a man because he was infatuated with his wife, who he had talked to online.
Authorities say Lutgen broke into the home while the two were sleeping early this morning and tried killing the husband by hitting him with a piece of wood and kicking him, all while allegedly yelling "die."
The suspect told the wife he believed the victim was an unfit father and husband and asked for assistance in killing him.
The victim suffered a fractured skull and bleeding in the brain.
Charges include 1st degree attempted murder, two counts of burglary in the 1st degree and one count of assault in the 2nd degree.
Bail for Lutgen has been set at $500,000 with conditions. He'll be in court again Tuesday.
