Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- A Michigan woman who stabbed a Duluth woman to death in June will spend the next thirty years behind bars.
30-year-old Nicole Leone Revello pleaded guilty in June to intentional second degree murder in the stabbing death of 46-year-old Lisa Davis.
Judge Eric Hylden sentenced Revello to 367 months..the maximum guideline sentence for someone with no criminal history.
Revello has repeatedly blamed synthetic drugs for the stabbing, and Assistant County Attorney Kristen Swanson says that the supposed cause is replacing the actual tragedy that a mother and grandmother had their life taken and no amount of prison time will bring her back.
Several members of Davis's family held each other and cried at the sentencing.
Davis' mother Marge Shoots spoke about the loss of her daughter saying that she could hate Miss Revello, but it won't bring her daughter back.
She says Revello has problems and she hopes she finds help for the problems.
Davis's oldest daughter Misti sobbed through a statement saying she will never be able to hug her mother, smell her, or kiss her ever again. Davis says she doesn't care who was on what that day, the stabbing shouldn't have happened.
Assistant County Attorney Kristen Swanson read a statement on behalf of another daughter, Amber, who is pregnant and most saddened that her baby will never meet his grandma.
Davis said she could have asked for more time for Revello but it would be playing god over Revello's life like she did for her mother.
Davis's family struggled to prepare for the sentencing and face the woman who murdered their family.
"Just bringing back all these emotions. It's hard enough to deal with she's gone then to look her killer in the face and to realize that she doesn't care it seems like it to me," said Misti Davis, the victim's mother.
Before imposing the sentence, Judge Hylden told Revello that there is nothing more important or precious than human life.
Hylden said he was struck by the cold and calculated way the murder was carried out.
Revello held back tears as she said she sincerely regrets what took place.
She said there are no words or actions to apologize for what she has done and that if was not on synthetic drugs, this tragic incident would have never happened.
According to the criminal complaint, Revello and Davis began arguing over a bag of clothing.
Revello admitted to investigators that she intended to kill Davis and did so because she had to quote "shut her up".
Davis died of a single stab wound to the neck which punctured her aorta.
Police say Revello grabbed a knife and took time to sharpen it on a rock before the stabbing.
Davis' family says they could have pushed for first degree murder charges, but they don't have the strength. They say they would not have made it through the stress and exploitation of a public trial.
