Esko, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) -- The Minnesota Twins Foundation has awarded a $10,000 grant to the Esko Little League and Softball Association.
The Minnesota Twins Community Fund's Twins Fields for Kids Program will help replace the dugouts ruined in June's flood and to replace the clay that washed away from the pitcher's mound.
The money comes as a matching grant, and will be matched with a mixture of inkind labor donations, funds from ELLSA, the Esko Baseball Association and the school district.
"We are so grateful to the Minnesota Twins and their willingness to get involved and support communities in this way," said Ben Haugen, head coach of the high school baseball team."
In addition to the work that will be funded by the program, almost 30 Esko volunteers have already worked to repair the outfield fence and replace ag-lime on the field.
A storage shed also needs to be repaired.
Esko voters are being asked to approve a $2.7 million referendum to upgrade the aging sports facilities. An operating levy for the school is also on November's ballot.
