Duluth, Minn. (NNCNOW.com) -- People around the United States are celebrating Lost Dog Awareness Day.

The day was set aside to draw attention to all the dogs that are lost each year and to the dogs that are reunited with their families.

One incident happened right here in Duluth a year ago.

A pooch from Florida was reunited with its family nearly two years after it was lost in the Twin Ports.

The awareness day was created by Susan Taney and Kathy Pobloskie, directors of Lost Dogs Illinois and Lost Dogs of Wisconsin.

There is also a Lost Dogs of Minnesota which is an all volunteer organization that helps people find their misplaced dog.
