Update: Preliminary Autopsy Says St. Cloud Officer Died from Multiple Gun Shot Wounds

Cold Spring, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- A preliminary autopsy report says that the St. Cloud officer who was shot and killed in the line of duty Thursday night died due to his injuries from multiple gun shot wounds.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says that they are continuing to investigate the death of Officer Tom Decker and have already interviewed potential witnesses and have located several guns.

According to authorities, Officer Decker was killed in the line of duty around 11 p.m. last night in Cold Springs, MN.

In a news conference early Friday morning, the Stearns County Sheriff's Department said that the shooting occurred while the officer was conducting a welfare check.

The officer was shot in an alley behind the apartment where he was sent to conduct the check. The apartment is above the Winners' bar.

The Sheriff's office says that they have arrested a 34-year-old man from Cold Spring, and he is being held on charges of second degree murder.

Funeral arrangements for Officer Decker are pending.

Officer Decker spent more than 10 years in law enforcement and had worked as an officer with the Cold Spring Police Department since March 2006. He was a native of Cold Spring.
