Minneapolis, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Target officials have confirmed that PIN numbers were among the information stolen during a data breach during the holiday shopping period.
Target says they are still in the early stages of their investigation into the security breach, however say they have discovered that PIN information was removed from their system.
Target released the following statement on Friday concerning the update into the investigation of the breach:
"While we previously shared that encrypted data was obtained, this morning through additional forensics work we were able to confirm that strongly encrypted PIN data was removed. We remain confident that PIN numbers are safe and secure. The PIN information was fully encrypted at the keypad, remained encrypted within our system, and remained encrypted when it was removed from our systems."
Target announced last week that they were aware of unauthorized access to payment card data that may have impacted 40 million customers. Target says that no debit cards were compromised in the data breach.
