Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - We are just hours away from one of the largest events in Duluth's history, and organizers of the Tall Ships Festival say parking may be the biggest problem for people not prepared.

With an estimated quarter of a million people expected to pack the park, organizers say spectators should expect extreme traffic congestion and the best bet is to use the designated shuttle services.

Beginning Thursday morning and running through Sunday evening, parking and shuttle services will be provided to festival spectators just off of Garfield Avenue.

Spectators can purchase a reserved parking spot and use the FREE round-trip shuttle service to and from the festival grounds.

The shuttle service runs every fifteen to twenty minutes during festival hours and is finished thirty minutes after the daily events end.

Festival organizers say there are several parking options available and by preparing ahead of time, spectators will save time, money and headaches.

"You can buy a pass online for the Garfield lot which will allow you to park there all day and also give you a shuttle to the venue, to festival park and back, and also there will be parking at the tech village up by the hospital," said Gene Shaw of Visit Duluth.

The other locations near festival grounds that will provide parking on a first-come, first-served basis are at Bayfront Festival Park, the DECC and the Great Lakes Aquarium.

Additionally, there is an open field surface parking lot located at Rice's Point, serving the Tall Ships Event.

Interstate Parking is providing many of the parking spots for the event.
