Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) --- A Northshore Mining pellet plant supervisor has been recognized by the Department of Defense for offering exceptional support and services to military employees.

Billy Panetti has presented with the Patriotic Employer Award last week by a representative of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.

The Patriotic Employer award recognizes the efforts made to support military members through a wide range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families and granting leaves of absence if needed.

Panetti was nominated for the award by Zachary Ward, operations tech, Northshore Mining pellet plant who is a member of the 148th Fighter Wing.

“My employer compensates the difference in my income while I’m deployed as I make considerably less while serving our country," says Ward. "With this benefit, my family will not have to worry about payments or other costs while I am overseas. They have also offered to help us with snow removal this winter, which will help my family considerably and give me less to worry about while I am away. I truly believe my employer and my supervisor deserve the highest recognition available.”

Ward began a one-year deployment to Kuwait last month.
