NBC (Northland's NewsCenter) -- As thousands of postal employees anticipate the possible closing of their mail processing facilites, NBC says that the U.S. Postal Inspection Service plans to step up the number of patrols at many of the mail processing facilities for any adverse reactions by employees.
The closing of mail processing facilities is a move that is expected to slow the mail and lead to a significant downsizing of delivery, according to NBC.
According to NBC, Postal officials planned Wednesday night to start informing workers at the 252 of the 487 mail processing centers whether their site is slated to close after a moratorium on closures that end in the middle of May.
According to NBC, it was unclear from the USPS and postal union officials whether employees would be told what closures would mean for their jobs.
The Postal Service did not return messages for an official comment, according to NBC.
