Duluth, MN (Northland’s NewsCenter) --- Three small businesses in Duluth were broken into early this morning and Duluth Police are looking for those responsible.

A suspect or suspects attempted to rob Bixby's Café and Yarn Harbor in the Mount Royal Shopping Center as well as Dunn Bros. Coffee off London Road.

Police say the break-ins happened around 2:00 a.m.

A supervisor at Bixby's Café says somebody broke into two cash registers and stole an unknown amount of change.

The back door was also damaged.

The owner of Yarn Harbor says someone also broke into her store and caused minor damage to the door but did not steal anything.

"I walked in and immediately saw that the registered were just thrown on the floor, there was change everywhere,” Carley Sipper of Bixby’s Café said. “Everything is a mess. I ran out and was super scared because I didn't' know if they were hiding in the back.”

"My alarm was triggered and the sound of the alarm must have made them flee," Kathy Thomas, Owner of Yarn Harbor said.

Thomas says this incident is the third break-in attempt on the store in the last five years.

An active investigation is underway and police do not have any suspects in custody.

At this time, police do not know if the break-ins are connected.
