August 19, 2014 Updated Aug 19, 2014 at 11:58 AM CDT

Madison, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- Governor Scott Walker has announced that the week of August 18–24 will be Wisconsin's Ports Week.

Hosted by the Transportation Development Association of Wisconsin (TDA) and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDot), the goal of the week is to educate, promote and celebrate what the port network does for the state's economy, quality of life and environment.

Wisconsin's 29 commercial ports are responsible for more than 30 million tons of cargo. Due to the high amount of goods that are able to pass through the ports, the ports are able to generate more than $1.6 billion in economic activity which helps support close to 10,000 jobs.
