Brimson, MN (NNCNOW.com) - A Prior Lake man was injured Friday night in a snowmobile crash on the Brimson Trail.
According to the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, David Maxfield, 57, was leading two snowmobiles on a portion of the trail about 3/4 of a mile south east of Highway 44 when witnesses say he took off at a high rate of speed and disappeared around curves in the trail.
Authorities say Maxfield failed to negotiate a curve and went off the trail. He was then thrown from his sled.
The Sheriff's Office reports that Maxfield, who was wearing a helmet, suffered an apparent broken leg from the crash as well as shoulder and arm injuries.
Authorities say they believe alcohol and excessive speed were factors in the crash.
