St. Paul, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- A public hearing and open house is set to discuss the proposed high-speed passenger rail service from Minneapolis to Duluth.

The meeting will be held on Thursday, April 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Cambridge Armed Forces Reserve Community Center in Cambridge, MN.

An environmental assessment prepared by the Minnesota Department of Transporation will be released on March 18. The documents reveal the purpose and need of the project along with service-wide social, economic and environmental impacts. Those who attend the meeting will learn more about the assessment and voice their opinions on the proposed Northern LIghts Express.

The Minnesota Department of Transporation partnered with the Federal Railroad Administration, The Minneapolis-Duluth/Superior Passenger Rail Alliance and the Wiscondin Department of Transportation to come up with the Tier 1 Service Level Environmental Assessment.

MnDot and Alliance will be at the meeting on April 4 to answer questions about the project.
