Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - The ninth annual Great Lakes Pond Hockey Classic is officially underway on Barker's Island Bay, in Superior.

The weekend–long championship features 24 teams, with players from across the nation, including Arizona.

While the teams, which include a senior division and an all–woman team, will be going head to head for the championship title, it's all for a bigger purpose as the end of the day.

"It's for a good cause. Every penny we make goes toward supporting [the Superior Amateur Hockey Association.] It helps bring the price of hockey down for kids," said director Jason Rauner.

The weekend–long tournament will come to a climax this Sunday, at 1:30, for the championship game.
