Red Cross opens 'Holiday Mail for Heroes' mailbox

St. Paul, MN (NNCNOW.com ) --- The American Red Cross is asking Americans across the country to show their support for our troops by sending a "Holiday Mail for Heroes" card.

Through December 6, Americans can create and send cards to service members, veterans and their families who will receive cards across the country and around the world.

“While it may not seem like much, a hand-written note to a service member spending time away from his or her family makes a word of difference,” says Phil Hansen, Regional Chapter Executive for the American Red Cross Northern Minnesota Region.

The Northern Minnesota Region of the American Red Cross will support Holiday Mail for Heroes with a card signing event at the Mall of America on Sunday, November 10, from 10AM – 3PM in Nordstrom Court. Cards will be provided.

For those unable to attend the card signing event, the Red Cross invites the public to send messages of thanks and holiday cheer by mailing them to:
Holiday Mail for Heroes
P.O. Box 5456
Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456

To ensure that cards are delivered in time for the holidays, they must be postmarked no later than December 6.

Red Cross officials ask individuals to refrain from sending letters, monetary donations or any other kinds of inserts with the cards.
