Rip current warning for Duluth beaches

September 26, 2013 Updated Sep 26, 2013 at 11:46 AM CDT

Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- The Duluth Fire Department has issued a Red Flag Warning for all beaches along Park Point in Duluth due to the high risk of rip currents.

The warning is effective immediately and will continue until 10am Friday.

A Red Flag Warning indicates that wind or wave conditions support a high risk for dangerous rip currents. Authorities say rip currents can be life-threatening to anyone entering the surf.

The Fire Department is advising everyone to stay out of the water. All persons regardless of swimming experience are advised to stay out of the water. Beach goers will be notified when conditions improve.

Lifeguards are not present at Park Point.

Rip current flags and signs are posted at 12th St beach, Lafayette Square, and Park Point beach in Duluth.
