Dewey Township, WI (NNCNOW.com) --- A 63-year-old man is recovering from injuries sustained after being attacked by a bear near Shell Lake on Monday night.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says that Jerry Brown, of Dewey Township, was attacked while out in his yard around 9:30 Monday.
DNR officials believe Brown's dog may have had contact with the bear before the man was attacked.
Kevin Harter, with DNR communications, says that the man's brother was at the residence when the attack happened and came outside and shot the bear. The bear then ran away.
The DNR issued a shoot permit to the man's brother in the event that bear returns. They have also placed a trap at the location where the bear was seen.
Meanwhile, Brown was taken to a hospital in Shell Lake and then airlifted to North Memorial Hospital in the Twin Cities.
His condition remains unknown at this time.
