Spirit Mountain chairlift on the mend

January 4, 2014 Updated Jan 4, 2014 at 9:17 PM CST

Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) -- The 14 month old Spirit Express Two chairlift at Spirit Mountain has been broken since Christmas Eve.

The chairlift has been out of service after an engine blew.

The lift was installed in October of 2014 and is the facilities highest capacity chairlift.

It is most typically used by skiing beginners because it is easier for those less experienced to get off of the lift.

However, Renee Mattson, Executive Director of Spirit Mountain says all runs are accessible by other chair lifts.

"We are providing transportation from the bottom of that run and over to our summit lift, so everything is 100 percent accessible, it just created a little bit of longer lines during the Christmas holidays but we'll be up and running soon," said Mattson.

Spirit Mountain has also taken a hit from the cold weather and will be closed again on Sunday and Monday.

The broken chairlift is expected to be back up and running by Saturday, Jan 11.
