Duluth, MN (Northland's NewsCenter) - Those who have financially given to the cause were able to get a look at where and who their money will be going to.
The large, one room NICU will be transformed into 18 private care rooms, allowing for reduced stimuli during the little ones stay and offering more privacy to their families.
Doctor Lee Muskovitz with the NICU says if construction goes as planned, babies in the NICU during the reconstruction could be in their new rooms before the project is complete.
"The timeline for the NICU will hopefully begin something in late summer, early fall and take approximately six months to actually complete an entire new NICU. At that point we would be moving the babies from the original NICU to the new patient room," said Dr. Muskovitz.
The new rooms can also expand to allow room for more than one baby, if a mother gives birth to multiple babies at one time.
