Superior, WI (Northland's NewsCenter) -- The Superior Police Department has launched a new iPhone app that allows people to anonymously share information with the department.
The app is named 'SPDTip.' The police can respond back, and can have an anonymous 'chat' if the tipster chooses to have a continued dialog.
The department says 'SPDTip' puts a powerful new crime fighting tool into the hands of the community for all ages and demographics.
The program coincides with the department's existing text messaging service known as 'tip411' which is provided by a company called, Citizen Observe, based out of Saint Paul.
The department's base tip line is still available.
All tips are received anonymously but it should be noted that the system is not monitored 24/7 so emergencies should still be reported through 911.
An Android version of the application is in development and should be available by early 2013
