Hermantown, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- A 37 year old Ham Lake, MN man is in custody following a burglary at the Hermantown Car and Pet Wash.
Officers were called to the business around 10 Monday morning on the report of a burglary.
The owner of the car and pet wash told authorities that as he arrived at his business, he found the suspect trying to burglarize the coin machines.
A brief struggle ensued where the suspect allegedly threatened the owner with a screwdriver, punched him in the face and fled the scene in a tan Oldsmobile Cutlass. Authorities say the suspect lost his shirt and shoes during the struggle.
A short time later, officers received a report of an intoxicated person who had just purchased gas at a business in the Adolph area. Authorities say the description the clerk provided of the intoxicated person matched the description of the burglary suspect.
Police located the suspect vehicle and took the man into custody without incident.
The suspect was transported to the St. Louis County Jail on charges of 2nd Degree Assault, 3rd Degree Burglary and Possession of Burglary Tools, all of which are felonies. Formal charges are expected sometime this week.
The suspect also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest by the Minnesota Department of Corrections for Assault and Possession of Burglary Tools.
Authorities say the suspect admitted to the burglary of the car wash.
