Duluth, MN (Northland’s NewsCenter) --- A teenage girl is fighting for her life after being stabbed and beaten in Duluth’s Central Hillside neighborhood.
One teenage boy is in custody while police search for another suspect in connection to the assault.
When Duluth Police officers arrived to the 10 block of East 5th Street just after midnight Saturday, they found a 17-year-old girl with a stab wound to her chest from a knife.
They also said she had been hit in the head with a wooden baseball bat.
Police found an 18-year-old man nearby who had also been hit in the head with the bat.
The girl received surgery at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth and remains in serious condition.
Police released the injured man after an interview.
Police say both victims were assaulted by a suspect with the bat.
They believe the girl was stabbed by a second suspect with a knife.
Meanwhile, a 17-year-old man is in Douglas County Jail and has been formally charged with Aiding and Abetting 1st Degree Assault and 3rd Degree Assault.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s deputy arrested him after he stopped to assist him with car trouble near Poplar, WI around 4:00 Saturday.
Police continue to look for a second suspect.
