Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- Motorists bound for Duluth and the North Shore may experience delays on I-35 and the Blatnik Bridge this weekend during Grandma's Marathon, according to Minnesota transportation officials.
Delays are expected Friday afternoon and evening as well as on Sunday. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel-time or travel during off-peak times if possible.
A five-mile-long section of I-35 is restricted to one lane northbound and southbound while crews continue work on a resurfacing project. The project area begins in Scanlon and ends at Boundary Ave. All businesses will remain accessible on I-35.
The Interstate 535/Highway 53 bridge (Blatnik Bridge) between Duluth and Superior is restricted to one lane in each direction. The Blatnik Bridge is in the second year of a major rehabilitation project.
When the I-35 and Blatnik Bridge projects are finished, motorists will experience a smoother, safer ride.
Grandma’s Marathon, slated for June 22 is one of Duluth’s largest events attracting 50,000 people to 60,000 people, according to marathon officials.
