When it's only four above, pastoral vestments give way to snowmobile suits.
Pastor Brad Shannon of New Life Covenant Church in Twig is leaving worship to ride his sled.

"I'm going to snowmobile from here to Churchill, Manitoba!" said the pastor.

"Long distance snowmobile trips really aren't anything new. Ralph Plaisted took a bubble nose Ski Doo to the North Pole in 1968. But, the pastor here is doing this trip for a mission; a mission to build a brand new church." said reporter Dave Anderson.

"We are trying to have an expanded impact in the community and we're building across the road." said Brad Shannon.

The current church is an old Saint Louis County one room schoolhouse.
This long, cold ride is a fundraiser that has pulled in at least $400,000 in pledges.
Adventures like this seem to be in the pastor's blood.

"It's been a lifelong dream for him to snowmobile in the wild and so he's also been to Churchill travelled with his dad many years ago." said Brad's wife, Brooke.

This trip will offer a different view than the last one; through fifteen hundred miles of trail via a windshield.

"I'm excited about seeing God's creation and everything in between." said Brad.

The fundraising snowmobile ride will be at a fairly easy pace.
While wife Brooke follows in a truck, Brad will take until Wednesday to get to the Canadian border.
The whole voyage should last until early March.
That will give the pastor plenty of time to reflect and strengthen his own faith.

"I think when you step out beyond what you can control or manufacture, you experience God's faithfulness." said the pastor.
