An open house celebration today at UWS honored student veterans and the Veteran and Non–Traditional Student Center's one academic year anniversary.

The Veteran Student Center provides assistance to students transitioning from armed services... to educational services.

Helping vets find VA benefits while providing them with tools to succeed on campus is a top priority for those at the center.

Carl Huber, the center coordinator says they have had many successes in the short time of their existence.

"Working with Scott Buchanan our county veterans service officer, he actually had a vet come back and was interested in getting his educational benefits, sent him over here and he's going to be starting with us in the fall."

Roy who now works at the center says having a place to get information and resources has made a huge difference in his life.

"It's just the greatest thing in the world not having to deal with all the noise of people talking about whatever and having a quiet area."
