Vermilion Motel in Cook Goes Up in Flames

The Vermilion Motel on Highway 53 in Cook, has suffered an estimated $500,000 in damages by an early morning blaze.

Tenants were alerted to the fire when an occupant smelled smoke in her room.

All 17 tenants were able to escape without injury.

The Minnesota State Fire Marshall and the St. Louis County Sheriff's Dept. are working in conjunction to determine the cause of the fire.

The American Red Cross is working to provide shelter for displaced tenants.
