Virginia Police Chief Steps Down Amid Controversy

June 10, 2011 Updated Jun 10, 2011 at 3:44 PM CST

Former Virginia Police Chief Dana Waldron sent a letter to the Northland's Newscenter today regarding his suspension from duty and the investigation into allegations of wrongdoing.

Here is his letter:

The City of Virginia offered a separation agreement and it is in the best interest of my family and me that I accept this agreement.

The agreement stipulates that I will retire from the police department on July 1, 2011.

It further stipulates that I am not able to make any comments about the recent investigation done on myself.

I do believe in due process and was willing to go forward with a civil service hearing however the separation agreement speaks for itself.

I want to thank everyone for all of the calls, comments and letters of support that I have received over the past several months.

They will always be treasured.

I will not be available for further comment until after June 19 because of a previous commitment.

Sincerely,

Dana Waldron
