Wisconsin DNR Reports 20th Snowmobiler Fatality This Season

Madison, WI (NNCNOW.com) ---A 46-year-old man is dead after his snowmobile crashed into two snowbanks causing him and the machine to go airborne.

The accident happened just after 6 on Sunday night in Vilas County Township.

The victim was found with the snowmobile along the west shore of the Lac Vieux Desert Lake. Authorities say speed may have been a contributing factor, but that the accident remains under investigation.

The accident on Sunday brings the total to 20 snowmobiler fatalities in Wisconsin this season.

The DNR is urging snowmobilers to keep safety in mind at all times, keep your speed down, stay sober anr ride on designated routes.

Also, wardens are urging snowmobilers to stay off of the rapidly changing ice covers.
