A new luxury apartment complex is going-up on Duluth's Rice Lake road and its designed for grad students, faculty and young professionals.

Sixty-nine units are under construction at Summit Ridge--a new luxury apartment complex. Mark Lambert is the developer and he already provides housing for college kids in Campus Park and Boulder Ridge.

"Summit Ridge is actually going to be the next level beyond that, we're looking at some nice new amenities," Lambert said.

Apartments, Lambert says will be similar to what's available at Boulder Ridge. Students say his housing provides them with a stepping stone.

"It's kind of that middle step from...moving out of your house to first going to college and then your in the dorms...you're not ready to really being on your own yet," said Paisley Nardini, UMD student and resident of Boulder Ridge.

When it's all done, the four-story complex will feature an array of amenities including a game room, tanning beds, and an exercise room. Lambert says demand for this type of housing is strong.

"We're actually about a third-leased so far," Lambert said.

But rent isn't exactly cheap.

Lambert says a one bedroom apartment will run about
$700 a month, while a three-bedroom will cost up to $1,300 monthly.
One Campus Park resident says he likes this type of housing for convenience.

"I don't really have to worry about shoveling or mowing a lawn or anything like that," said Nick Taurinskas, UMD student.

Nardini says she's looking to live in a house next year with her roommates, but is keeping Summit Ridge in her mind.

"I could definitely see myself coming back here," she said.

The complex is expected to open in July. Lambert says the apartments will cost about $4 million to build.
