Duluth's Fireworks Weathering Economic Turbulence

By KBJR News 1

Despite the economic turbulence, which has caused some communities to cancel or scale back their fireworks displays, the festivities at Duluth's Bayfront Festival Park will go on as planned.

Visit Duluth says about $50,000 will be spent to light up the night sky this year.

The city says no general fund dollars go towards the display. Officials say the event draws people from across the region.

"Duluth has gained a reputation of having one of the best fireworks displays in the State of Minnesota if not the best--and it brings more and more visitors," said Mayor Don Ness of the City of Duluth.

Years ago, officials say a previous promoter tried to expand Duluth's Fourth of July festivities over the course of a couple days. But city officials say participation in the extra events didn't meet expectations.

This year's display will start around 10 P.M.
