Amsoil Hosts Street Rod Tour

By KBJR News 1

Cars of all kind found their place in Superior.

Amsoil hosted it's second-annual street rod tour and people from across the country rolled in.

"But more importantly, we've got a lot of the local people who have the vintage cars and are involved with car clubs--(they're) coming here to kind of rub elbows with those people," said Steve LePage, Amsoil regional sales manager.

Organizers say this year's tour featured a 1952 Chevy Bel Air that was created specifically for the Amsoil Road Tour.

For Carl Winek, driving his 1965 Mustang is like turning back the clock.

"It makes me feel like I'm a kid again, and I'm far from being a kid," he said.

Many of the auto enthusiasts will tell you hot rodding is more than just a hobby--it's a passion.

"It's a lifestyle," said Larry Watczak, Duluth resident.

Watczak says in order to experience street rodding, you have to do much more than simply spectate.

"You got to be in it to really appreciate it," he said.

Aside from taking the rides to car shows, there's also the fun of showing them off on the street.

"I've been in a lot of parades, and everybody just says 'nice car, nice car,'" said Winek.

Organizers say many of the Roadsters will make their way to Michigan on Tuesday as part of the tour.
