Northland Fugitives Arrested as Part of Federal Manhunt

By KBJR News 1

A nationwide crime hunt organized by U.S. Marshals nets about 35,000 fugitives.

Operation Falcon used state and local law enforcement agencies to help track down the suspects.

Duluth police say they helped out in the manhunt, capturing about 20 fugitives in the area.

Operation Falcon stands for 'Federal And Local Cops Organized Nationally.' The network's goal is to apprehend fugitives across the nation. This year's manhunt took place across a four-week period.

Police say U.S. Marshals were in the Duluth area tracking down fugitives for two days. In Minnesota alone, police say more than 250 people were taken into custody.

Operation Falcon also cleared more than 47,000 warrants and nabbed 433 homicide suspects in the U.S. this year. About 2,400 sex offenders were also apprehended in the nationwide hunt.

Federal officials are touting the program as a huge success. Since it's inception in 2005, Marshals report that operation Falcon has resulted in the capture of about 91,00 fugitives.

Across the nation, the Marshals used resources from 209 state agencies. The Feds also received help from about 2,000 local police and sheriff's departments.
