Italian Village Muffaletta Sandwich
The recipe was given to the Italian Village by its very good friend and local chef Arlene Coco, a native of New Orleans. The Muffaletta originates from the Central Grocery Store in New Orleans and gets its name from the type of bread used to make it.
Focaccia Bread – sliced into two rounds top and bottom
A nice coating of olive oil spread on the two bread rounds
15 slices of the following:
• Genoa salami
• Capicola Ham
• Mozzarella Cheese
• Provolone Cheese
½ pint Olive spread
Sweet roasted pepper white wine “dipping juice”
Remember to build your sandwich meat/cheese/meet/cheese. Make sure your last cheese is Provolone since it repels moisture making it easier to spread the olive mixture.
Depending on the amount of people you are serving, cut into 8 or 10 wedges.
You can buy all of the ingredients for a Muffaletta at the Italian Village ~ 301 North Central Avenue Duluth MN 55807 ~ 218-624-2286.
