Minnesota Power Employees Credit Union is a member-owned, not-for-profit financial institution whose primary mission is serving our members.

MPECU got its start in 1933. During its first 61 years, it served solely the employees and family members of Minnesota Power. Now MPECU’s 6400+ members are from its field of membership which includes employees and families of ALLETE INC., CenturyLink, at&t, LHB , Cirrus, Stewart-Taylor Printing, Sansio, Duluth News Tribune, Enbridge Energy, Enventis Telecom, CW Technology, maurices, and COMO Oil & Propane. MPECU currently has 22 employees that manage $83 million+ in assets. MPECU is a state-chartered credit union governed by the Minnesota Department of Commerce. The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) is the insurer and regulator of MPECU, the NCUA oversees the credit unions safety and soundness. MPECU is active in the Arrowhead Chapter of Credit Unions, Minnesota Credit Union Network, and Credit Union National Association (CUNA).

MPECU offers a full range of products and services to its members. It is a member of the CU Shared Service Center, providing access nationwide. The mission statement of MPECU reads:

“Member owned and member driven, the purpose of the Minnesota Power Employees Credit Union is to provide members convenient, efficient, high quality financial service while maintaining competitive, fair rates and fiscal soundness.”
