Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - This winter has been hard all around, but the American Red Cross says it has hit their effort to help especially hard.

Due to weather conditions, 1,500 blood drives nationwide have been cancelled this winter, leaving the Red Cross blood bank in short supply.

Additionally, Executive Director for the Northland Chapter of the Red Cross, Dan Williams, says that there has been a 38-percent increase in the number of fire disaster responses in the same January-February time period compared to last winter.

If you'd like to help, contact the Red Cross at www.redcross.org or 1-800-RED-CROSS.

Blood drives will be held in the Northland on the following dates:

Duluth: March 31

Aitkin: April 2 from 12-6 p.m. at Hill City School

Crow Wing: April 3 from 12-6 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church
