Kay Bushey thought she was going in for a routine mammogram... but she later received a phone call that no one wants to get.

"Friday afternoon Doctor Sanford called me with the results that it was cancerous," says Kay.

Kay was worried about her condition... but the homecoming of her son who was serving in Iraq with the National Guard... helped ease her concern.

"But because our son was home... I was okay with it. So that was really an uplift and it really helped," says Kay.

Kay eventually had to undergo a lumpectomy, followed by 32 treatments of radiation at St. Luke's Hospital.

"I had Doctor Lenz do the surgery and he was wonderful and everybody here was wonderful," says Kay.

As Kay was recovering from her treatments she leaned on her friends and family for support... all of whom were more than willing to do whatever they could... as Kay has always been there for her loved ones.

"Kay is a power of strength. When you're feeling down or happy or whatever you always want to call Kay and tell her about it and she is always there for you," says Kay's friend Carol Bloomquist.

Kay finished her treatments in 2008 and has since made it a priority to educate other women about the importance of mammograms.... Hoping to save lives as this routine procedure saved hers.
