Duluth, MN (NNCNOW.com) - Members of the Twin Ports Flotilla, of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, have made boating safety on Lake Superior their number one mission.

Known as "America's Volunteer Lifesavers" the Auxiliary comprises nearly one third of the Coast Guard's total manpower.

One of those lifesavers making a difference is veteran Auxiliary member James Munger, whose shipmates call him "Doc."

Doc Munger has taught generations of boaters the safety essentials when sailing Lake Superior.

He is approaching his 38th year with the Auxiliary.

At the age of 85 he shows no signs of slowing down and he says he’s in for the duration.
