Two Harbors, MN (NNCNOW.com) --- One woman from Two Harbors has been recognized for her efforts to help keep other senior citizens active and healthy.
Lu Cotton has been named the winner of the Salute the Senior Service Contest and now, Home Instead Senior Care is donating $500.
Cotton's decided to give the money back to Community Partners and Socially Active Seniors, two non-profits she volunteers for.
"My life is to volunteer, wherever I am needed," Cotton said.
At the age of 76, Cotton wastes no time helping other seniors citizens like 87-year-old Elsie Ohlund stay sharp and active.
Ohlund says she owes her passion for quilting to Cotton.
Together, they've made 55 quilts in a year and a half, giving them to family, friends and those in need.
"When you want something to do, and you come down to quilt, it just puts your mind at ease,” Ohlund said. “You just feel better after you work at it for about two hours."
Winners of the Salute to Senior Service could win up to 55-hundred dollars for their favorite volunteer organization
