It's a holiday for environmentalism a time to celebrate our surroundings and a reminder to care for our planet.
"Earth Day 2009 is a day to raise awareness of the world around us, but it's also the day that the doors opened for more environmentally conscious options."
Or simply, ECO.
"To celebrate it on Earth Day, the Grand Opening, I think it's very exciting. I am so happy to have this for the community."
ECO IS a place to find environmentally friendly resources for buildings and renovations.
But McDonnell also wants to highlight how our entire community is living a greener life.
"There are businesses here that are helping consumers find ways to have eco-friendly living and healthy indoor air quality and reuse salvaged items and find ways to live simply."
"People want this. It's, I think we hit the tipping point. People are making the changes and they want to have eco-friendly things to buy. Whether its their food, or their cars, or their computers, or their flooring, or their homes, they want eco-friendly and so the consumer have spoken loud and clear."
And knows that there will be even more steps taken because of our youth.
"Younger Generations may be coming up and learning about this and having a lot of energy toward it, and thinking no way am I going to continue down that path."
And instead making greener choices.
ECO was a nominee for the Joel Labovitz Entrepreneurial Success Award.
