Duluth, MN
Upper Lakes Food held a food expo at the DECC on Tuesday, bringing dozens of food vendors from around the Midwest together.
But Upper Lakes Food Company also unveiled their new online store called the "Natural Market Place"

"Our Natural Market Place is an opportunity that we have to provide to our customers organic, gluten free, all natural, non–GMO, a lot of those "buzz" words right now on a much smaller scale." says Mitch Ryan with the Upper Lakes Food Company.

Large or small businesses will be able to order small amounts of all sustainable products through the website. Ryan says his customers drove the surge in interest to be more sustainable by asking to perchance organic and local.

"Items being purchased are organic, they are gluten free, they are non–GMO, their your local product, your sustainable products. People like spending money locally, they like keeping it in house and that's what going on now." Ryan states.

But the expo was also a way to bring all the local food vendors together in one place. Whether it was a large distribution company, or a small egg company in Wrenshall, all were welcome to participate.

Lucie Amundsen from the Locally Laid Egg Company said, "It really helps a business like us connect to all the people that buy these products, all the restaurants that really need to use a small farm product to help these farms stay sustainable."

Robert Baird from Michigan made the trip to showcase a sustainable alternative to bottled water.

"And we feel our products are more sustainable, they're easier on the environment." said Baird from the company called Boxed Water Is Better.

All of the leftover food from the event was donated to local food shelves once it wrapped up.
