Lake Superior Zoo Flood Relief Project Underway

July 2, 2012 Updated Jul 2, 2012 at 1:53 PM CDT

Cleanup efforts have begun at the Lake Superior Zoo and extent of the damage still needs to be determined.

Staff is working on developing an extensive plan for flood cleanup.

The Kingsbury Creek has not receded to its normal water level, but paths throughout the zoo are clear and most of the animal areas are accessible by vehicle.

The zoo is anticipating the water level to be close to normal by Saturday.

Major infrastructure issues are still being assessed.

The zoo and city management will establish the total cost of the damages once the creek fully recedes.

Offers of assistants are pouring in.

Donations of money, supplies and skilled volunteer help are needed and a list of needs will be posted on the zoo website: www.lszoo.org.

The zoo is planning a volunteer cleanup event for this weekend.
